Palm Sunday Drive

4/8/2020

Self Isolation Day 1 – Saturday, March 14

lllll  lllll  lllll  lllll  lllll  today, day 25

Spring is my favorite time of year, it brings the promise of new hope, cool mornings and bright sunny days, fresh vegetables in the garden and the chickens kick up their egg production.  Even they like spring.  I love a Sunday morning drive, always have.  So, as promised, Poopsy took me for the weekly drive.  We have a friend who is clearing land and building a house and shop nearby.  It was early so we decided to go see their progress.  As we pulled out of the gate I said we should probably take the truck, but we were already in the Mazda and on the road.  It was a cooler, dreary, sprinkly morning, and the top layer of dirt was damp.  We drove into the woods in our little two seater, enjoying the fresh rain smell and emerging cool greens of spring…  And then we were stuck.  In the mud.  In the middle of the woods.  On a Sunday.  During a pandemic.  We exited the car to assess the situation (so glad I didn’t wear my new shoes!!), and tried a couple of times to move the car which resulted in getting deeper into the mud.  Then Poopsy spotted a palm plant that had been pulled when clearing the land, and he cut the branches and laid them in front of the tires, and drove out of the mud.  I realized then that it was Palm Sunday and thought how poetic that palms were our rescue that morning.  It wasn’t beautiful like the palms my sister put on her front porch to honor the day, but it was an adventure.  I love spring.

Oh what a night!

4/1/2020 – I bought shoes…  and you may have noticed, I don’t like shoes.  But these are super cute and totally affordable converse slip on shoes.  But that’s not the best part.  I got the email that the package had been delivered to my gate.  But it wasn’t there, so I waited, and when I remembered again it was late and dark, and I mean DARK as pitch black night.  But I ran out to the gate and there was a box!!!  NEW SHOES!!!  And as I turned toward the house a cool breeze blew through and the sky cleared.  It was full of stars and a sliver of a moon, and my breath caught in my throat from the surprise and beauty of the moment.

Why did the gator cross the road?

We don’t actually know, but this big guy crossed the road on the bridge at the end of our property.  He’s about 6 foot long nose to tip of...
