Goodbye 2020

 12/31/20. Fluffy Butt Chronicles

My office has a window overlooking our front yard and fields beyond.  The resident Sand Hill cranes keep me company most days.  Sometimes they are at my window looking in and cleaning up the bugs on the bushes.  Other days they are resting in the grass enjoying the Florida sun.  Many days they chase off predators, interlopers and any other birds that might land on ‘their’ property.  They are always together.  One eats, the other watches; one sits down, the other stands.  They fight, they dance, they fly!  They reflect our life here on Fluffy Butt Farm.  We take care of each other, watch over each other and protect what is ours.  We fight, we dance, we fly (literally, my honey is a pilot).  This year has been a new kind of adventure, we are lifetime partners, just like the Bigs (Big Bird Bebe and Big Daddy) who survived the unknown and scary.  I’m ok saying goodbye to 2020 and pray for a 2021 that brings peace and health in my home and in my country.  I’m wishing you and yours a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve and a lovely, hopeful New Year.

Best Wishes for 2021

Palm Sunday Drive

4/8/2020

Self Isolation Day 1 – Saturday, March 14

lllll  lllll  lllll  lllll  lllll  today, day 25

Spring is my favorite time of year, it brings the promise of new hope, cool mornings and bright sunny days, fresh vegetables in the garden and the chickens kick up their egg production.  Even they like spring.  I love a Sunday morning drive, always have.  So, as promised, Poopsy took me for the weekly drive.  We have a friend who is clearing land and building a house and shop nearby.  It was early so we decided to go see their progress.  As we pulled out of the gate I said we should probably take the truck, but we were already in the Mazda and on the road.  It was a cooler, dreary, sprinkly morning, and the top layer of dirt was damp.  We drove into the woods in our little two seater, enjoying the fresh rain smell and emerging cool greens of spring…  And then we were stuck.  In the mud.  In the middle of the woods.  On a Sunday.  During a pandemic.  We exited the car to assess the situation (so glad I didn’t wear my new shoes!!), and tried a couple of times to move the car which resulted in getting deeper into the mud.  Then Poopsy spotted a palm plant that had been pulled when clearing the land, and he cut the branches and laid them in front of the tires, and drove out of the mud.  I realized then that it was Palm Sunday and thought how poetic that palms were our rescue that morning.  It wasn’t beautiful like the palms my sister put on her front porch to honor the day, but it was an adventure.  I love spring.

Oh what a night!

4/1/2020 – I bought shoes…  and you may have noticed, I don’t like shoes.  But these are super cute and totally affordable converse slip on shoes.  But that’s not the best part.  I got the email that the package had been delivered to my gate.  But it wasn’t there, so I waited, and when I remembered again it was late and dark, and I mean DARK as pitch black night.  But I ran out to the gate and there was a box!!!  NEW SHOES!!!  And as I turned toward the house a cool breeze blew through and the sky cleared.  It was full of stars and a sliver of a moon, and my breath caught in my throat from the surprise and beauty of the moment.

Good Morning

Good morning from Fluffy Butt Farm – this morning I woke up with a joyful heart.  I stumbled out of bed in the dark and started my chores, and didn’t even think about the ‘virus’.  Buffy, our old lady hen, gets to run about the yard in the morning while we feed and water the flock, and her BFF JoJo scrapes her beak along the chicken wire and screams for her to join her in the coop.  Once Buffy is in, JoJo runs to the nest box and Buffy starts hollering cos now her BFF is missing…  (but oh the delicious egg she is manufacturing).   The Sandhill Cranes, BeBe, Big Daddy and Yesterday lope across the backyard, and start stealing chicken scratch from the hens, causing a full blown riot as the sun rises over the house and lights up my little world.  Breakfast of fresh eggs, hash and toast for Poopsy, and I drink coffee with him at the bar while we chat.

Me and my coffee go to work, in my office overlooking the meadow.  There are worse places to sit out this invisible threat, it doesn’t seem real from here.

Hope you are all safe and well. Hugs!!

Why did the gator cross the road?
